Pre-Doctoral Program: Student Awards 2017

The Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry held their Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 24.  The following students received awards.

Yessica Escutia Ponce de Leon, Isabella Newcomer, and Holly Steger - W. Philip Phair Preventive Dentistry Award presented by Ms. Marsha Cunningham. The award is presented to students for exceptional interest and leadership toward the improvement of health and the well-being of society through a commitment to preventive dentistry.
 

Isabella Newcomer - American Association of Public Health Dentistry Award presented by Dr. John Warren. The award is presented to a senior student who shows interest and achievement in Community Dentistry and Dental Public Health.
 

 

Sean McGivern – Efaw Family Award in Dental Public Health presented by Dr. Steve Levy. The award is given to a student going into DPH and/or who was involved substantially with the DPH Distinction Track and the DPH Club.
 
 

Caitlin Miller - Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation Award for Excellence in Geriatric & Special Needs Dentistry presented by Dr. Howard Cowen. The award is presented to a student who shows exceptional clinical proficiency and understanding of complex oral health needs of the frail elderly and medically complex adults.
 

Bond Harman – June McCarney Scholarship Award presented by Dr. Howard Cowen. The award is presented to a senior student who demonstrates compassion for those with special needs and possesses leadership skills. (also pictured, Catilin Miller)

Daniel Thrall - Joel B. Huth Memorial Scholarship Award presented by Dr. Howard Cowen. The award is presented to a senior student interested in special populations and is above average clinically.

Walker Clark– Brian D. Stone Memorial Award presented by Dr. Jay Davidson representing Dental Lifeline Network. The award is presented to a senior student who has participated in volunteerism and community outreach projects and/or provided service for the elderly, medically compromised and/or people with disabilities.

Frankie Chyi – Second Place, Max Smith Pre-doctoral Poster Competition presented by Dr. John Warren.
 

 

 

Sean McGivern – Research Achievement Award presented by Dr. John Warren.
