Pre-Doctoral Program: Student Awards 2014
The Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry held their Awards Luncheon on June 4, 2014. The following students received awards.
Katie Naberhaus (DDS ’14) received the American Association of Public He alth Dentistry Award. The award is presented to a senior student that showed interest and achieve- ment in Community Dentistry and Dental Public Health. The award was presented to her by Dr. John Warren.
Connor Elmitt (DDS ’14) received the Delta Dental Award for Excellence in Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry. The award is presented to a student who shows exceptional clinical proficiency and understanding of complex oral health needs of the frail elderly and medically complex adults. The award was presented to him by Dr. Howard Cowen.
Ames Cross (DDS ’14) received the Joel B. Huth-Mello Scholarship Award. The award is presented to a senior student interested in special populations and above average clinically. The award was presented to him by Dr. Howard Cowen.
Jessica Wilke (DDS ’14) received the June McCarney Scholarship Award. The award is presented to a senior student who demonstrates compassion for those with special needs and possesses leadership skills. The award was presented to her by Dr. Howard Cowen.
Abbie Otto (DDS ’14) received the Brian Stone Memorial Award. The award is presented to a senior student who has participated in volunteerism and community outreach projects and/or provided service for the elderly, medically compromised, and/or people with disabilities. The award was presented to her by Dr. Jay Davidson (Dental Lifeline Network).
Mari Heslinga (D2) was recognized by Dr. John Warren for being accepted into the Paul Ambrose Scholars Program.
Dr. John Warren, Ashley Deemer (DDS ‘14), Katy Cook (DDS ‘14 ), Dan Branson (DDS ‘14), Jessica Grabouski (DDS ‘14), Eric Popp (DDS ‘14), Jena Hopkins (DDS ‘14) and Chong Shao (DDS ‘14). These students, along with Justine Stemper, Chad Waltz, Levi Zarbano, Ian Bell, Paul O’Kane and Christina Schiltz (all DDS ‘14), who were unable to attend, were recognized for achieving Distinction in Dental Public Health.
Jonathan Karch (DDS ‘14)was one of two recipients of the W. Philip Phair Prev entive Dentistry Award. The award is presented to students who show exceptional interest and leadership toward the improvement of health and the well-being of society through a commitment to preventive dentistry.
Jonathan Meyer, received the W. Philip Phair Preventive Dentistry Award from Marsha Cunningham. Jonathan was one of two recipients. The award is presented to students who show exceptional interest and leadership toward the improvement of health and the well-being of society through a commitment to preventive dentistry.
Courtney Bohn (D2) was recognized for receiving second place, Iowa Dental Association Annual Meeting Table Clinic Competition. Her mentor was Dr. Michelle McQuistan, Prev entive & Community Dentistry.
Not pictured:
- Trine Nielsen, a Danish dental exchange student, received special recognition for excellence in geriatric & special needs dentistry. She spent one semester at the UI College of Dentistry before returning to Denmark.
