Caries Risk Assessment Forms

American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Risk Assessment Form: This eight-page document reviews the AAPD's Caries Rick Assessment Tool and is appropriate for dental and non-dental health professionals. (Assessment Form included with permission from the AAPD)
Modified Caries Risk Assessment Form: This one-page document is slightly modified from the AAPD's Caries Risk Assessment Tool and is used in the University of Iowa College of Dentistry's Department of Pediatric Dentistry.

Flip Charts (in English and Spanish)

The 21 page, 8 1/2 x 11 inch, double-sided, self-standing, color spiral bound flip chart is an excellent resource for educating parents/caregivers on the concepts of pediatric oral health for young children. It is designed to be used by health care professionals, WIC personnel and others to deliver pediatric oral health care messages by having the parent/caregiver view the photos on the front side while the presenter reviews the more detailed information on the back side. It begins with basic oral health care messages during pregnancy and covers dental eruption times, signs of teething, the importance of primary teeth, early childhood caries, how cavities are caused, and ways to prevent dental caries. Pregnancy and Oral Health

Oral Health and Your Baby: Recent research has shown that the oral health of pregnant mothers can affect the health of their babies. This two-page document informs pregnant women, physicians, and dentists about dental care for the pregnant patient.

Toothbrushing Protocol

Toothbrushing Protocol: Toothbrushing has become an important daily activity in many preschool and childcare settings. The purpose of this document is to provide information, practical details, and evidence-based rationale that will guide individuals and programs as they develop protocols for their centers.; There is an accompanying educational video entitled "Modified Toothbrushing Protocol" designed to assist early childhood educators in teaching children toothbrushing in the classroom setting. Slayton, and published by Wiley-Blackwell, presents important information related to early childhood oral health in a comprehensive reference for students and other academics.
