Course Description

We all want life to go back to “normal” but economic and social upheaval presents unique challenges to dental practice. We will focus on new infectious disease threats including COVID-19, superbugs, and the future of new antibiotic development. Strategies for mitigating respiratory pathogen transmission in the dental setting and status of testing, therapeutics, and vaccines will be discussed. Many patients want to know about immune support supplements or therapies so we will talk about the myths and realities of these treatments. Meanwhile, the opioid epidemic touches every American and dental prescribing practices have rapidly evolved. We will examine current and future innovative drug combinations which can reduce risks to patients and to your practice. Finally, we will discuss the growing trends of medication overprescribing spirals and self-medication in the context of safe dental therapies. Extensive handouts will allow clinicians to apply lecture information to chairside practice in order to meet the complex challenges of modern dental pharmacotherapy in uncertain times
