Course Description

This course presents an overview of the current status of digital dentistry with emphasis on criteria for evaluating the technology for a variety of prosthodontic procedures. The course presents clinical cases that include both conventional and digital components in the treatment workflow.

Objectives

Participants should be to:

* Understand the differences between conventional and digital work flows for manufacturing dental restorations;

* Be familiar with the current status of digital technology and the expanded possibilities this technology may provide;

* Understand the criteria for evaluating digital systems and how to select the system that is most suited to your individual needs; and

* Understand the possibilities of integrating conventional and digital techniques at different levels of complexities to enhance treatment workflow and overcome possible system’s deficiencies.

Instructors

Dr. Tarek El Kerdani received his D.D.S. from Cairo University (Egypt) in 1985, followed with one year of internship and certificate of restorative dentistry from the same school. In 1994, he received certificate in prosthodontics from Indiana University, followed by Master’s Degree in Dental Sciences in 1996. He maintained a private practice to 2010. He was a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida from 2010-2017, and got promoted to the rank of full Clinical Professor in July 2017. Dr. Kerdani was the recipient of the first “Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award" in February 2017. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics since 2000 and recertified in 2009 & 2017. He joined the UI College of Dentistry, Department of Prosthodontics as the graduate program director in August 2017. Dr. Kerdani has several publications in Journal of Prosthodontics, Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, MedEdPORTAL and ACP’s Prosthopedia.

Dr. Salahaldeen Abuhammoud received his D.D.S. degree from University of Jordan in 2011. He was a clinical and research teaching assistant at the University of Jordan from 2013-2015. In 2018, he received a certificate in prosthodontics from University of Iowa and a Master's Degree in Oral Science.
