These awards are presented to D4 students who demonstrated the highest achievements in the Department of Family Dentistry’s Practice Management course. The awards are named for Dr. Duane Schmidt, a Cedar Rapids dentist, author, and lecturer, whose generous donations fund the awards. The awards consist of a framed certificate and an expense voucher for a local, state, or national dental meeting.

The Delta Dental Foundation Treatment Planning and Documentation Award is presented to a D4 student who has excelled in record keeping and treatment planning. The award consists of a framed certificate and a check for $3000.

The Academy of General Dentistry Senior Student Dental Award
Dr. John V. Doering, Anthony J. Brantner,
and Dr. Michael Spector
This is a certificate and complementary one-year membership in the AGD given to a graduating senior dental student who has indicated a desire to practice general dentistry, maintained an academic scholastic balance between his/her clinical and didactic basis courses of study, and demonstrated outstanding attributes conducive to exceptional doctor-patient relationships.

This award, established and endowed by Dr. Vincent and Verla Williams, consists of a plaque and a check for $1000, presented to “the top senior Family Dentistry student who has consistently demonstrated the principles of rational treatment planning in the treatment of their patients in the Department of Family Dentistry."

The Dr. J. Michael Leary Memorial Award is presented annually to a graduating senior dental student who has demonstrated the high ethical and technical standards personified by Dr. Leary. The award consists of a framed certificate and a check for $500.
