After completing his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Iowa, Dr. Figueroa pursued additional training as a fellow at the Oral Facial Surgery Institute at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.  There he received extensive surgical training intemporomandibular joint surgery, facial trauma surgery, pathology and reconstruction as well as cosmetic surgery.  He joined the faculty at the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2017. Dr. Figueroa is actively involved in the post-graduate Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery resident training program. He also provides didactic lectures to the pre-doctoral students.

Dr. Figueroa is a private practice orthodontist along with his father, Dr. Alvaro Figueroa, in Naperville, Illinois. He is also actively involved in the care of patients with craniofacial anomalies with the Rush University Medical Center Craniofacial team.  In addition to his orthodontic practice, he is actively involved in orthodontic and craniofacial research.

Following a private practice experience in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dr. Fridrich joined the College of Dentistry Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgey as an assistant professor in 1988. He became the graduate program director for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery progam in 1993. Dr. Fricrich was appointed professor and head of the Department of Hospital Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2000.

Dr. Gratton joined the Department of Prosthodontics in 2002. In 2015, he joined Hospital Dentistry and is also now an associate professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Before coming to the University of Iowa, he was an assistant professor in prosthodontics at the University of Western Ontario's School of Dentistry. He was also a dental staff member of the London Health Sciences Centre, University Campus, in the Oral and Maxillofacial Rehabilitation Unit, Department of Dentistry.

Dr. Lawson is the Director of the Division of Biomaterials at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry and the program director of the Biomaterials residency program. He has served as an investigator on over 50 clinical and laboratory research grants, and published over 150 peer reviewed articles, book chapters, and research abstracts. His research interests are the mechanical, optical, and biologic properties of dental materials and clinical evaluation of new dental materials. He was the 2016 recipient of the Stanford New Investigator Award and the 2017 3M Innovative Research Fellowship both from the American Dental Association.  He has served on the American Dental Association Council of Scientific Affairs and is on the editorial board of The Journal of Adhesive Dentistry and Compendium. He has lectured nationally and internationally on the subject of dental materials. He also works as a general dentist in the UAB Faculty Practice.
