The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child have an oral exam within 6 months of the eruption of their first tooth, but no later than 1 year of age. While this may seem young to some parents, many children already have dental decay by the age of three.
Pediatric Dentists at the College of Dentistry provide dental care, with an emphasis on dental health, for infants and children up to the age of 15 – 17 years, including children with special needs. These specialty dentists, previously known as pedodontists, have advanced training and try to assure each child the opportunity for a lifetime free of preventable oral disease.
