Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists

Biopsies save lives. The Surgical Oral Pathology Laboratory at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry diagnoses malignant, pre-malignant, benign and inflammatory lesions.

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists identify and manage diseases affecting the oral (teeth and mouth)and maxillofacial (jaws and face) regions and investigate the causes, identification, effects, and management of these diseases. At the College of Dentistry these clinical and research specialists, along with a team of microscopic diagnosticians, collaborate with other dental and medical practitioners to advance oral health care for patients.
