Pre-Doctoral Program: Student Awards 2015

The Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry held their Awards Luncheon on June 3, 2015.  The following students received awards.

Warren and Krones
Alicia Krones (Class of 2015) received the American Association of Public Health Dentistry Award. The award is presented to a senior student who shows interest and achievement in Community Dentistry and Dental Public Health. The award was presented to her by Dr. John Warren.
Dawa, Ford, Howard
Ernestine Dawa and Enrique Howard (Class of 2015) received the W. Philip Phair Preventive Dentistry Award. The award is presented to students for exceptional interest and leadership toward the improvement of health and the well-being of society through a commitment to preventive dentistry. The award was presented by Ms. Marsha Cunningham-Ford.
Krones and Cowen
Alicia Krones received the Delta Dental Award for Excellence in Geriatric & Special Needs Dentistry. The award is presented to a student who shows exceptional clinical proficiency and understanding of complex oral health needs of the frail elderly and medically complex adults. The award was presented to her by Dr. Howard Cowen.
Holten and Cowen
Adam Holton (Class of 2015) received the June McCarney Scholarship Award. The award is presented to a senior student who demonstrates compassion for those with special needs and possesses leadership skills. The award was presented to him by Dr. Howard Cowen.
Clayes and Cowen
Lauren Claeys (Class of 2015) received the Brian Stone Memorial Award. The award is presented to a senior student who has participated in volunteerism and community outreach projects and/or provided service for the elderly, medically compromised and/or people with disabilities. The award was presented to her by Dr. Howard Cowen.
Anderson, Espanto, Bohn and McQuistan
Courtney Bohn (D3), third from the left, was recognized for receiving second place, ADA Pre-doctoral Poster/Table Clinic Competition. Her mentor was Dr. Michelle McQuistan. (Second from the left) Callie Espanto, a UI undergrad, was recognized for receiving first place at the Inspire LSAMP Conference Poster Presentation. Her mentor was Dr. Michelle McQuistan. Standing with the group is Justin Anderson (Class of 2015).
Howard and Cowen
Enrique Howard (Class of 2015) received the Joel B. Huth-Mello Scholarship Award. The award is presented to a senior student interested in special populations and is above average clinically. The award was presented to him by Dr. Howard Cowen.
J.Anderson, H Anderson and Warren
Justin Anderson and Hannah Anderson (both Class of 2015) were recognized by Dr. John Warren for receiving Research Achievement Awards.
Zmoos, Evan, Pluym, Fritz, Howard, Krones, Levy
Taylor Zmoos, Evan Pluym, Kymberly Fritz, Enrique Howard, Alicia Krones (all Class of 2015), and Dr. Steve Levy. These students, along with Judith Kituku and Victoria Moran (also Class of 2015) who were unable to attend, were recognized for achieving distinction in dental public health.
Warren and Singhal
Dr. Astha Singhal was recognized for receiving the Keith E. Heller Dental Public Health Graduate Research Award and a first place Leverett Graduate Student Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dental Public Health. The awards were presented to her by Dr. John Warren.
Dawson and Cowen
Dr. Melody Dawson, dental public health resident, was recognized for receiving the Samuel Johnston Student Fellowship Award. The award was presented to her by Dr. Howard Cowen.
Singhal, Reynolds, Ghazal, Warren
Drs. Astha Singhal, Julie Reynolds, and Tariq Ghazal were recognized by Dr. John Warren for completing the American Board of Dental Public Health certification.
Ingleshwar and Damiano
Dr. Aparna Ingleshwar, dental public health resident, was recognized for receiving first place, Post-doctoral Graduate Dental Specialty Award. The award was presented to her by Dr. Peter Damiano.
McGivern and Levy
Sean McGivern (Class of 2015) was recognized by Dr. Steve Levy for receiving an NIDCR Summer Research Fellowship.

 

Caplan and Ettinger
Preventive & Community Dentistry DEO Dr. Dan Caplan recognized Dr. Ronald Ettinger for his dedication to the field of geriatric and special needs dentistry. He was also recognized for being an innovator at the college and for teaching thousands of students how to appropriately treat older adults.
