The department was integrated in 1975 from the previous three divisions of oral pathology, oral radiology and oral diagnosis under the leadership of Dr. Gilbert E. Lilly. The current departmental name was adopted in 1992. Pharmaceutical Services under the direction of Professor Karen Baker was added to the department in 2000.
The Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology and Medicine has significant diversity in curricular responsibility which is reflected in our faculty. The Department currently has two licensed pharmacists with advanced training in clinical therapeutics; three experienced generalist dentists, two with contemporary training in large hospital-based CPR programs; three Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologists, four Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists. This diversity is clearly a strength of OPRM.
