Becoming a Patient at the College

Dr. McDermott with patientWe welcome everyone to our clinics, and offer comprehensive dental care and referral for dental specialty services. Treatment may be provided by the following providers: students, residents, or faculty. Excellent dentistry will be provided with all three options. Patients requesting student care are first evaluated by faculty dentists in Admissions.

Student Clinics

  1. Pre-doctoral students (dental students): Treatment is carefully supervised by faculty. Extra time and additional appointments are required for treatment. Your contribution to our educational program results in a reduced fee. To schedule an appointment, call (319) 335-7499.

  2. Residents: The College has nearly 100 dental residents who have graduated from dental school and are receiving advanced training in a dental specialty. You may be referred to the resident clinics from within the College of Dentistry due to case complexity or by your own dental provider for reduced specialty fees. The College is one of only two dental schools in the U.S. that offers programs in all dental specialties.

Faculty Private Practice

Our faculty dentists see patients in their private practices at the College. Fees and time commitment are comparable to private dental offices. All dental specialties are available for consultation and special treatment needs. This allows for convenient and easily coordinated referrals. You may contact the clinics directly or call Admissions at (319) 335-7499.
